The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has confirmed the rescue of 58 children from a trafficking ring in Benue State, Nigeria. Officials report that approximately 300 children, aged 2 to 8, were taken from Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps by traffickers posing as educational benefactors in 2024. Following investigations that began in May 2025, NAPTIP executed four separate operations that resulted in the arrest of a suspected ringleader and four accomplices. While 58 children have been reunited with their families, efforts continue to locate the remaining missing victims. “We are doing everything in our power to bring them home,” said a NAPTIP zonal commander, urging guardians to remain vigilant against similar schemes.
