AMBER Advocate Magazine
Issue 15
This issue recaps the 2010 National AMBER Alert Symposium held in Phoenix, Arizona, where partners from across the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and the European Union come together to strengthen international collaboration. A major story features the “Ride for Their Lives” event, in which Ed Smart and Ahmad Rivazfar—fathers of abducted children—ride bicycles across the country to raise awareness for child protection. The publication shares NCMEC statistics showing that children are most at risk of abduction while traveling to and from school. The Utah Child Abduction Response Team (CART) becomes the seventh nationally certified team and the first in the West after completing a successful mock abduction drill. A “Front Lines” story highlights a cross-border AMBER Alert that results in the safe recovery of a four-year-old girl and her mother in Canada, with alerts issued in both countries. The issue also profiles Ron Laney, Associate Administrator for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, who expresses his deep commitment to protecting children. Additionally, two Mexican states join the AMBER Alert network, further expanding the program’s reach.
