AMBER Advocate Magazine
Issue 14
The August 2010 edition of The AMBER Advocate, titled the “Missing Children’s Day Edition,” highlights the commemoration of National Missing Children’s Day on May 25, 2010. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder honors law enforcement officers and citizens in Washington, D.C., for their efforts in recovering missing children. The publication features stories on the history of National Missing Children’s Day, which began with the 1979 disappearance of Etan Patz, and the use of AMBER Alert training to help solve a 1996 child homicide case in Oregon. It also covers a high-profile child abduction in Orange Park, Florida, where a Child Abduction Response Team (CART) plays a key role in solving the case. A profile on Bob Hoever, associate director at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), highlights his extensive contributions to AMBER Alert training. International efforts by France, Belgium, and the United Kingdom to establish cross-border alerts are also discussed, along with a symposium focused on child protection in Indian Country.
