AMBER Advocate Magazine
Issue 01
This inaugural issue of the AMBER Advocate focuses on the priorities set by National AMBER Alert Coordinator Regina Schofield, which centered on enhancing preparedness through robust training—including the development of six courses to be offered more than 40 times a year by the Department of Justice, notably forming Child Abduction Response Teams (CART). The issue emphasizes expanding reach to vital partners by addressing complex cross-border abductions with international partners from Canada and Mexico (who attended the 2006 National Conference for the first time), expanding alerts into Native American communities where tribal sovereignty and technology gaps pose significant challenges, and formalizing guidelines for endangered child alerts. Furthermore, the issue celebrates new public engagement milestones, including the unveiling of the first-ever commemorative AMBER Alert postage stamp on Missing Children’s Day, the launch of a campaign encouraging the public to sign up for free Wireless AMBER Alerts on their cell phones, and the establishment of January 13th as National AMBER Alert Awareness Day.
