Following an abduction of a 4-year-old at a Monterey, California, motel, the suspect, Daniel Hutchens, fled in a rental car at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The AMBER Alert was activated shortly after the suspect abandoned his vehicle. Within approximately three hours of the initial report, community members in Castroville, California, spotted the pair and alerted 911. Recovery was expedited by the deployment of multi-agency drone teams, which tracked the suspect moving through a neighborhood near a middle school. This combination of public vigilance and real-time aerial surveillance allowed officers to converge and secure the child without further incident.
