LOCATER poster complications

All,

Currently the Tennessee Missing Children’s Clearinghouse used the LOCATER program through NCMEC to create missing poster for all our alerts (AMBER, Endangered Child & Silver Alerts). This program has presented multiple technical issues that cannot be resolved by «tech support» we are told it’s just the program. There are often times that we cannot have multiple windows open in one browser while creating a poster in the LOCATER program. I am interested to see what other agencies use to create and distribute their missing persons posters. Thanks everyone!!

In Kentucky we do not have a system in place for this. However we are currently working on getting funding to create a public missing persons website that will hopefully give us these types of functions.

In California we are legislatively mandated to create posters for each of our alerts. We have simple templates for each alert and I would be happy to send them to you if desired. It’s a quick process and since it can be done with Microsoft products, it shouldn’t cost you anything.

Ed, I’d love to take a look at what you all do. Also, what system/ software do you use to disseminate your final poster?

Sorry for the late response. The NYS Missing Persons Clearinghouse has software that creates the poster from the State/NCIC missing person entry. We are able to edit certain parts of it. We would be happy to show it to you if you are interested.

In Zuni , New Mexico. We use the Locater Software that was provided to us. We have ran some tests making posters. We have been fortunate about not having to deal with child abductions in our community. But we are ready if were are put in that situation.
