Missouri is working on a project with a side goal of incorporating AMBER Alert information in LPR hotsheet data. The technical architecture is being drafted and we are seeking information from any state that is currently leveraging LPR’s for AMBER Alerts. We have an interest in the architecture being used and what, if anything has proven successful in the real world.
Corey, I don’t have anything to offer, but I think that this is super and would love to hear about the architecture once you have it sorted! I am guessing that this would have ties into Vigilant, DEA-EPIC and maybe other databases?
Fantastic idea! We haven’t implemented this in Arkansas and unfortunately right now in Arkansas, we don’t have LPRs on our major highways, they are only utilized on city streets in many areas. I would be interested to see what responses you get and would love to see this happen and see how valuable it becomes.
Bill and Stacie, thank you for the feedback. The current idea, as proposed by the project manager, is to make the existing “hotsheet” information available in 15 minute increments (as opposed to the 12 hour increment it is now) and make the update immediate, in the case of an AMBER or Blue Alert issued from MoAlerts. This is conceptual only at this point and can be adjusted if we learn of a better or more innovative way.

I think this is a great idea, yesterday, New Mexico issued an Amber Alert and one of our Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers who works Criminal Interdiction Patrol has access to an LPR database, he noticed the vehicle had passed an LPR on Interstate 40 in the Texas panhandle traveling east toward Oklahoma.
The NM Amber mentioned the abductor having ties to Oklahoma City/Edmond, the OHP trooper worked with Texas authorities and within one hour the car was located and the child and abductor were in the possession of Texas law enforcement.
I want to know more about how we (Amber Alert Coordinators) can partner with LPR systems to get tags into their systems within moments of authorizing an Amber Alert.
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
