Aloha from the Hawaii clearinghouse! Question for states with Child Abduction Response Teams (CART):

Does your CART have funding? If so, is your CART funded by state budget or federal grants or both? Mahalo for your responses!

Thank you so much, Lt Warren! Really helps. Curious to know whether other CART teams need or have funding. Hawaii’s 4 counties are separated by water so we would need to cover travel and related costs for deployment of team members to a particular island plus training costs. Happy Holidays, Amanda Leonard

Hi! I am the CART Coordinator from New Jersey. We have no funding for ours either. I attempted to research grant funding in the past and was unsuccessful. I would love to know if anyone else was able to secure grant funding for CART. We could definitely use if for supplies, training and equipment. If I need anything, I do try to add it to our annual budget.

    Hope this helps.

Our team is a three-county regional team on the MN-WI border near Duluth, MN. Initially, we were comprised of four agencies (Duluth PD, Superior PD, St. Louis County Sheriff and Douglas County Sheriff). When we first formed we had each of the four main agencies contribute funding to the team. This allowed us to get some basic equipment and training to the area. Since that time, we have expanded to include many other agencies throughout our region. We no longer require each member agency to contribute money and instead only ask for funding when it is needed (usually to bring in training to the area). All of the current equipment and resource needs are able to be met among the existing member agencies.

Our team is also a regional team. In Arizona, we have the main CART team which holds the certification, located in the Phoenix area. Here in Southern Az, we support the southern area to allow faster response but we are still part of the Phoenix area teams. We are not funded and ask the participating agencies to contribute items needed for the teams. In our IGA’s, the agencies agree that they are aware that they are responsible for their employees costs as well as contributing items that might be needed for the teams. We rotate the lead agency every year to help with the burden of hosting CART.
    I hope that helps

Georgia has a CART plan, but is not funded. our plan utilizes personnel in roles already in their job description. But there is no extra funding for training, etc.
