Hi Cindy, While I am not with the Michigan Clearinghouse anymore (but, I am the Region 3 Liaison now!), I can say that during my tenure in the MI Clearinghouse, we did not have anything in place addressing this issue. We did implement an Access database that we began tracking cases with the hopes that we could target the kids that had multiple runs. I think the problem became that we were overwhelmed with the large amount of runaways and not having enough staffing to address that issue alone. I am also interested in hearing from the other states on what they have done to combat the problem.

One thing we did implement was missing children “sweeps”, much like a fugitive sweep, by running all the local missing in NCIC and them creating packets to get teams to go out looking for them. This was a big hit and we almost always found over half of the cases we were looking for. But none of this addressed the long-term runaways or the repeat kids.
