As far as NYS in concerned, we use our own State Police Lab for recovered remains or DNA extraction and submission to CODIS. We have used UNT via NAMUS for submission or familial DNA submissions for entry into CODIS for hopes of connecting remains to families. With NAMUS’ status being on the verge of no longer existing we are unsure what, if any procedure, will be available going forward. We the NYSP have a forensic Odontologist on staff for comparisons if needed. We are anxiously awaiting NAMUS’ future. I am hopeful for them.
